How to use ICU Decoded

Last updated 6 October 2026 · By Dr Javed Akhtar

ICU Decoded is a bedside reference for doctors: 92 ICU chapters, 87 worked ward cases, 211 OPD diseases, 37 ICU scores and 50 bedside calculators, each written against a named clinical guideline.

Who it is for

Doctors. It is not for the general public. Its doses and prescriptions were being misused by people without medical training, so a person checks every new account before the locked parts open. You can get in with a referral code from a member, or apply by following us on Instagram (@icudecodedd) or Facebook (Drjaved akhtar (icudecodedd)) and sending a message.

Ask AI

  1. Open the app and tap Ask AI at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Type a clinical question in your own words, for example “management of DKA” or “hyperkalaemia treatment”.
  3. Read the answer, then open the pages it lists to see the full context.

Where the answer comes from: only ICU Decoded's own pages — the ICU chapters, Ward Pathways cases, OPD cards and the Aladin Chirag tools. It does not search the internet. Every answer names the pages it used. If the site does not cover your question, Ask AI says so; it does not guess or fill the gap from anywhere else.

Prescription (Auto-fill)

  1. Open Prescription and fill in the patient: name, age, sex, weight, and anything relevant such as allergies, pregnancy, kidney or liver function.
  2. Write your diagnosis and the symptoms or findings.
  3. Tap Pull from ICU Decoded. Suggested medicines, fluids, investigations and advice appear.
  4. Check each one. Every item shows the line it came from, so you can see why it is there. Tick what you want, edit doses to your patient, and add your own.
  5. Tap Print / Save PDF.

Where the suggestions come from: only ICU Decoded's own guideline-cited content — the ICU chapters and their treatment orders, the Ward cases, the OPD cards and the investigation lists. Nothing comes from the internet. If the site has nothing for a diagnosis, the prescription says so and stays empty rather than inventing something. Nothing is ticked for you: the prescribing doctor reviews, edits and signs every line.

ICU Decoded chapters

Pick a body system, then a chapter. Read the key points first, then follow a pathway one box at a time, answering yes or no at each question. The Treatment button lists the orders with doses; the Investigations button lists the tests to send first, the ones only if indicated, and what to repeat. The guideline behind each chapter is named at the top.

Ward Pathways

Find a case by specialty or search. Each case starts with the presentation, then the first moves (ABCDE), the decision steps, an order set, when to admit or call ICU, and the discharge plan.

OPD

Search a disease, a drug or an Indian brand name. Each card shows the drugs with adult and child doses and the brands, and an Investigations button with the tests for that disease. OPD is free for the first month after you sign in.

Aladin Chirag bedside tools

Choose a tool — for example a drug infusion. Enter the patient's weight and the numbers it asks for, and read the result. The same numbers always give the same result. Check the dose against your local protocol before giving it.

ICU clinical scores

Open ICU Scores, pick a score such as SOFA, GCS or CURB-65, and fill in the boxes. The total and what it means appear as you type. Nothing you enter is saved. The scores are free for everyone.

Device consoles

The CRRT, ECMO, ventilator, fluid and pacemaker consoles work the same way: enter the patient's details and the current settings, and the console shows the numbers to work from.

What is free

The ICU scores, eight ICU chapters, the Cardiology ward cases and the emergency drug calculators are open to everyone, and every library page shows its key points, tests and red flags. Everything else opens free with a referral or an approved application. OPD is free for your first month; after that, OPD, Ask AI and Prescription come with a plan, and a single prescription can also be bought on its own.

This is not medical advice. ICU Decoded is an educational reference for trained clinicians. Check every dose against your local protocol and the primary guideline. Read the medical disclaimer.
