Also: Splint, check pulses and nerves, elevate; open fracture — photograph, saline-soaked dressing, orthopaedics urgently (BOAST 2017, latest)

Investigations

First visit

X-ray of the injured part (two views, joint above and below) — After splinting and pain relief.
Distal pulses and nerve check — Before and after splinting.

Only if indicated

CBC, blood group — Femur or pelvic fracture, or open fracture.
CT — Complex joint or pelvic fracture.
Creatinine, blood glucose, ECG — Before surgery in elderly patients.
